Asabuja accuses celebrity businessmen of abandoning activism and chasing political influence after welcoming the president’s son.

Former Niger Delta militant leader, General Asabuja, has criticised popular Nigerian businessmen and entertainers, including Cubana Chief Priest and Obi Cubana, over their public association with Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.

In a strongly worded statement, Asabuja questioned the basis of the public reception and admiration shown to Seyi Tinubu, arguing that the president’s son does not hold any official political office in the country.

“Wetin be Seyi Tinubu’s position? Is he a Speaker or a Senator? His father is the President, but what office does he hold?” Asabuja asked.

He expressed disappointment at what he described as the willingness of some celebrities and influential figures to align themselves with political power for personal gain.

Directly calling out Cubana Chief Priest and Obi Cubana, the former militant leader accused them of abandoning principles and engaging in what he termed opportunistic behaviour.

According to him, while activists like Omoyele Sowore are protesting in Abia State over the continued detention of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, some entertainers are busy celebrating and hosting the president’s son.

“Sowore is in Abia State protesting and calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, yet some people are busy welcoming the president’s son who holds no official position,” he said.

Asabuja also criticised what he described as the growing intersection between entertainment, business and politics in Nigeria, suggesting that some public figures shift between industries solely to maintain relevance and influence.

“Today they are entertainers, tomorrow they are politicians, the next day something else,” he remarked.

He further contrasted the situation with what he described as the culture of loyalty among people from the Niger Delta region.

“That is why I like Niger Delta people. We don’t live this kind of fake life. When a Niger Delta man says he follows you, he truly stands by you,” Asabuja said.

His comments come amid ongoing public debate over the increasing visibility of Seyi Tinubu in political and social engagements across the country.
