Cash taken from Super Falcons stars in Morocco hotel raid to be returned as authorities begin prosecution ahead of WAFCON opener.

A major breakthrough has been recorded in the theft case involving Nigeria’s Super Falcons, after a suspect reportedly confessed to stealing cash from several players at their team hotel in Casablanca, Morocco.

The incident, which shook the team just days before the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), occurred at the Marriott Hotel during the final phase of the Falcons’ training camp.

Sources say the suspect has been arrested and has admitted to the crime, with arrangements underway to return the stolen money to the affected players. Legal proceedings are also expected to follow.

Midfielder Esther Okoronkwo had earlier raised the alarm on social media, revealing that she, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Michelle Alozie, and captain Rasheedat Ajibade were among those targeted. According to her, over $1,000 was taken from their hotel rooms.

Okoronkwo also criticised the hotel’s response, accusing staff of being dismissive and unhelpful when the matter was reported.

“We started talking to them and they don’t have answers. They also started being disrespectful,” she said, warning others to be cautious about patronising the facility.

Providing an update, Nigerian journalist and former Super Eagles media officer, Colin Udoh, confirmed that the case had progressed significantly.

“A suspect has been arrested in connection with the theft at the Super Falcons’ Marriott Hotel in Casablanca and has confessed. Full restitution will be made to the players while the law takes its course,” Udoh disclosed.

Despite the disruption, the Super Falcons have quickly refocused on their WAFCON campaign. The team, led by head coach Justine Madugu, has now settled in Rabat, where they will play their Group C matches.

Nigeria will kick off their tournament against Malawi on Tuesday at the Al Madina Stadium, before facing Zambia and Egypt as they pursue a record-extending 11th continental title.

The nine-time African champions have already resumed full training, determined to put the off-field drama behind them and focus on the task ahead.
