Premises evacuated minutes before structure caved in at Yemco Nursery, Primary and Comprehensive College in Ogba.

Students and teachers of Yemco Nursery, Primary and Comprehensive College in Lagos narrowly escaped death on Monday after a four-storey building housing the school collapsed shortly after the premises were evacuated.

The incident occurred around noon at No. 11 Adudatu Street, behind County Hospital, in the Aguda area of Ogba, Lagos.

According to eyewitnesses, the building caved in only minutes after students, teachers, and other occupants were hurriedly moved out of the structure, averting what could have been a major tragedy.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded in the incident.

Residents in the area said the sudden collapse caused panic in the neighbourhood as debris from the structure covered parts of the compound.

Building collapses have become a recurring concern in Lagos, with many incidents often linked to the use of substandard construction materials, structural defects, and weak enforcement of building regulations.

The Lagos State Government has repeatedly warned developers and property owners against violating building standards and has pledged to investigate the latest incident and take action against anyone found responsible.

Authorities are expected to conduct structural and safety assessments in the area to prevent similar occurrences.
