Rider reportedly lost control while descending Koto Ajala, slamming into oncoming vehicle; victims pronounced dead at scene.

Tragedy struck in Ogun State on Monday as two persons—a man and a woman—lost their lives in a fatal road crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup vehicle at Koto Ajala, inbound Owode, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the incident, attributing the crash to excessive speed and loss of control by the motorcyclist.

According to TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, eyewitness accounts revealed that the rider lost control while descending Koto Ajala outbound Owode, veering into the path of an oncoming Dongfeng pickup.

“The motorcycle, with registration number FFF 689 HA, collided with a Dongfeng pickup bearing registration number GGE 200 KP,” Akinbiyi said. “The crash claimed the lives of the two occupants of the motorcycle, while no other injuries were recorded.”

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) evacuated the victims to the Fakoya Hospital morgue in Sagamu, while the damaged vehicles were taken to a nearby police station for further investigation.

Traffic flow was briefly disrupted following the accident but was later restored after coordinated efforts by TRACE and FRSC operatives.

The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety in Ogun State, particularly involving commercial motorcycles. Earlier this month, a separate crash at Ogere Junction along the Ijebu Ode-Benin Expressway also claimed two lives.
