Missing Ondo Woman Found in Hotel with Man, Police Confirm No Abduction

42-year-old’s sudden disappearance sparked panic across Ilara-Mokin before she was traced 124km away in Ugbe-Akoko; police warn against raising false alarms.

A 42-year-old woman, Olatunde Funke, who was declared missing in Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, has been found in a hotel in Ugbe-Akoko—ending days of anxiety but raising fresh questions about the circumstances of her disappearance.

Funke’s sudden exit from her matrimonial home without notice had triggered widespread concern, with her husband and residents fearing the worst and launching a search.

Ilara-Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area is located about 124 kilometres from Ugbe-Akoko in Akoko North-East LGA—a journey that typically takes nearly three hours by road—adding to the mystery surrounding her movement.

However, investigations by security operatives led to her discovery in a hotel room, where she was found in the company of a 55-year-old man identified as Isa Alaba.

Sources familiar with the case said there was no evidence of abduction.

“She left on her own and did not inform anyone. She was later traced to the hotel with the man,” a source disclosed.

Following the discovery, Funke was taken into protective custody as authorities continue to probe the full details of the incident.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said the situation caused unnecessary panic and diverted security resources.

“This kind of incident creates avoidable alarm. Resources meant for real emergencies were deployed because people feared a possible crime,” he said.

The police spokesman urged residents to communicate more effectively, particularly in family settings, to prevent similar situations.

“There is a need for better communication, especially among couples. Issues like this can often be resolved through dialogue or family intervention instead of escalating into public concern,” Abayomi added.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to rapid response in genuine emergencies, while advising the public to always provide accurate and timely information when reporting incidents.
