Cleric says he meets armed groups alongside security operatives as part of dialogue efforts to address Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has claimed that the Federal Government of Nigeria has detailed knowledge of terrorists operating across the country, including their identities and locations.

Gumi made the statement while addressing concerns over his controversial engagements with armed groups in the North.

According to the cleric, his interactions with the groups are not conducted privately, stressing that security agencies are always involved in the meetings.

“The Federal Government knows every terrorist by name and location. I do not go alone to negotiate with them. I go with the police, the military and other security agencies,” Gumi said.

He explained that the engagements are part of broader efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and exploring peaceful solutions to the persistent insecurity affecting many communities.

Gumi has in the past defended such meetings, arguing that dialogue remains a critical tool for resolving conflicts and reducing violence in affected regions.
