Nigerian skit maker and streamer, Shank Comics, has ignited a heated debate across social media after boldly claiming that comedians earn and retain more wealth than many of Nigeria’s biggest music stars.

In a statement that quickly gained traction online, Shank argued that the financial gap between comedians and musicians is often misunderstood, insisting that top comedians such as Bovi and Basketmouth are significantly wealthier than leading Afrobeats acts including Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Asake.

According to him, the difference lies not just in earnings but in financial discipline and long-term planning. He noted that comedians tend to prioritise investments and future security, rather than splurging on luxury items.

“I think there is more money in comedy than music,” he said, adding that while many comedians can comfortably afford high-end cars and lavish lifestyles, they deliberately choose to invest their money instead.

Shank further emphasised that comedians are generally more cautious about their financial future, often avoiding extravagant spending habits commonly associated with the music industry.
