Tech giant says core services will remain free as users gain access to premium tools and AI-powered features

Meta Platforms Inc. has announced plans to test paid subscription services across its social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.

According to a report by TechCrunch, the subscription offering will allow users to access exclusive features while maintaining free access to the core services on each platform.

Meta said the new subscriptions would introduce premium tools designed to give users greater control over how they share content and connect with others.

The company explained that it would experiment with different subscription models and feature bundles, noting that each app would offer its own set of exclusive benefits tailored to its user base.

“Meta will offer a premium experience on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp that gives users access to special features and more control over how they share and connect, while keeping the core experiences free,” TechCrunch quoted the company as saying.

As part of its broader subscription strategy, Meta also revealed plans to scale Manus, an artificial intelligence agent it recently acquired for a reported $2 billion.

The company said Manus would be integrated into its products, while standalone subscription options would continue to be made available for businesses.

In addition, Meta disclosed plans to introduce subscriptions for AI-powered tools, including Vibes, a short-form AI video generation feature built into the Meta AI app.

The Vibes feature will enable users to create, remix, and share AI-generated videos, expanding Meta’s growing suite of generative AI tools.
