Behind The Scenes becomes the first Nollywood film to surpass the ₦2 billion box office mark, setting new records across Africa, the UK, and Ireland.
Popular Nollywood filmmaker and actress, Funke Akindele, has once again cemented her place in African cinema history with a record-breaking box office performance.
Her latest film, Behind The Scenes, has officially crossed the ₦2 billion mark at the box office, becoming the first Nollywood production to achieve this historic milestone.
The achievement was disclosed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, which revealed that the movie has grossed ₦2,103,039,706 in ticket sales.
According to FilmOne, this unprecedented feat makes Behind The Scenes the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time in Africa, as well as the top-grossing Nollywood release in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The record-breaking success further reinforces Akindele’s status as Africa’s most commercially successful filmmaker, and the highest-grossing writer, director, and producer in West African film history.
FilmOne Entertainment also noted that Akindele has now become the first filmmaker to rank number one at the African box office for three consecutive years, describing the accomplishment as unprecedented in the region’s film industry.
