
Tournament records 6.1 billion digital impressions and 5.2 billion video views, surpassing previous AFCON editions
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 recorded an unprecedented digital footprint, making it the most viewed continental football tournament in history.
According to figures released on CAF’s official social media platforms, AFCON 2025 generated 6.1 billion digital impressions and 5.2 billion video views across various online channels during the tournament.
CAF noted that the figures represent a significant improvement over previous editions. By comparison, AFCON 2023 recorded approximately 2.1 billion digital views, highlighting the massive growth achieved in the 2025 tournament.
Describing the performance as historic, CAF said the record-breaking engagement firmly positions African football as a dominant force on the global digital stage.
“The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 is now the most viewed football continental competition, generating an extraordinary 5.2 billion video views,” the football body stated.
CAF added that one of the strongest areas of growth came from the African diaspora, with millions of new users engaging with AFCON 2025 content throughout the competition.
From breathtaking goals and dramatic match moments to behind-the-scenes footage and fan reactions, digital content from AFCON 2025 reinforced the tournament’s status as a truly global sporting spectacle.
The competition was hosted by Morocco and ran from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
At the end of the tournament, Senegal emerged champions, with host nation Morocco finishing second, while Nigeria claimed third place.
