
Victims were returning from escorting a bride when the boat capsized in Yauri Local Government Area
The Kebbi State Government has expressed condolences to the families of victims involved in a tragic boat accident in Yauri Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of 14 people.
The incident occurred shortly after a wedding ceremony, with most of the victims reported to be women.
Governor Nasir Idris commiserated with the bereaved families, the Yauri Emirate, and residents of the area, describing the incident as a painful tragedy that has plunged the state into mourning.
The accident happened at Gumbi village in Yauri LGA. The victims were part of a large group escorting a bride to her husband’s home in Gwarzo village, Ngaski Local Government Area.
While returning from the ceremony, the boat conveying them reportedly capsized.
The Chairman of Yauri Local Government Area, Abubakar Shu’aibu, who represented the governor at the funeral prayers, urged the affected families and communities to remain steadfast and accept the tragedy as the will of Almighty Allah.
“I appeal to you to accept this incident in good faith, bearing in mind that nothing happens without the knowledge of our Creator,” he said.
“God does what He wills at the time He wills, and no one has the right to question Him.”
The deceased were buried in accordance with Islamic rites, with prayers offered for the repose of their souls.
