Former Ekiti governor alleges coordinated move to oust Ibadan monarch as Oyo government, palace deny claims and lawmaker rejects impeachment rumours.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has again stirred political controversy by insisting that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is plotting to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, despite repeated denials from both the state government and the royal palace.

Fayose, in a statement posted on his official X account on Tuesday, maintained that events unfolding in the state would eventually validate his claims. He alleged that recent accusations against the monarch are not coincidental but part of a broader, calculated effort to justify his removal.

“Those still in doubt should watch closely,” Fayose said, suggesting that earlier denials of any rift between Governor Makinde and the Olubadan were misleading. He argued that new allegations portraying the monarch as partisan are being orchestrated to create grounds for official action against him.

According to Fayose, the narrative has shifted from denial of conflict to claims that the Olubadan is plotting against the governor—an evolution he described as deliberate and strategic.

The renewed claims come at a time of heightened political tension in Oyo State. In a related development, the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, has distanced himself from speculations of an impeachment plot against Governor Makinde.

Oyekola, representing Atiba State Constituency, said he had no involvement in any such plan and would not be part of actions capable of destabilising the state.

“I was never invited, never consulted, and not part of any such arrangement,” he stated on his verified Facebook page.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the governor, stressing his commitment to the peace, unity, and continued progress of Oyo State.

Fayose’s latest remarks echo earlier allegations he made about an alleged plan to depose the Olubadan—claims that were promptly dismissed by both the state government and the palace.

Responding to the earlier claims, the Olubadan’s media aide dismissed suggestions of any rift, describing them as unfounded and insisting there was no friction between the monarch and the state government.

Similarly, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, rejected Fayose’s allegations, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.

He maintained that the government has never considered or discussed any move to remove the monarch, adding that such claims amount to “desperate propaganda” aimed at misleading the public and trivialising governance.
