Family, friends and Nollywood colleagues gathered in Ilaro, Ogun State, to bid an emotional farewell to the 66-year-old Yoruba film icon.

Tears and grief enveloped Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday as the remains of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, were laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

Family members, friends, colleagues and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects to the 66-year-old actor, whose burial was marked by emotional scenes.

A video from the ceremony showed mourners carrying Hassan’s remains to the burial ground as family members and sympathisers struggled to hold back their tears.

Among those visibly overcome with grief was his longtime friend and colleague, Yinka Quadri, who was seen crying as mourners consoled him.

Several other Nollywood stars, including Jide Kosoko, Faithia Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Mr Latin, Toyosi Adesanya, Ireti Osayemi and Bisi Omo Logbalogba, also attended the funeral to honour the late actor.

Hassan died at about 3pm on Sunday at the age of 66, according to an announcement by fellow veteran actor Jide Kosoko.

Following his death, his remains were taken to Ilaro, his hometown, where the Ilaro Muslim Community organised the lying-in-state and burial prayers.

The actor’s death came after a prolonged battle with stage-four cancer. Days before his passing, his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, had appealed for financial and medical assistance to support his treatment.

The family had disclosed that doctors could no longer administer chemotherapy because of the severity of his condition.

Ogogo was one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba-language cinema, with a career spanning more than four decades. He featured in hundreds of films and earned a reputation as one of the industry's most respected and influential actors.

His death has triggered an outpouring of grief across Nollywood, with colleagues, fans and admirers remembering him for his talent, distinctive acting style and enduring contribution to the Nigerian film industry.

As his remains were committed to the earth in Ilaro, colleagues and loved ones were left to mourn the loss of a veteran whose presence had become a defining part of Yoruba cinema.
