Stanley was shot several times after two motorcycle-riding gunmen reportedly stormed Royale Estate in Sangotedo, renewing concerns over cult-related violence in the Ajah axis.

A security guard identified as Stanley has been killed in a suspected cult-related attack at Royale Estate in the Sangotedo area of Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred on Friday night, has heightened concerns among residents and security stakeholders over the growing spate of cult-related violence and criminal activities around the Sangotedo, Ajah and Ibeju-Lekki axis.

According to reports, the attackers arrived at the estate between 10pm and 11pm and opened fire on the security guard before fleeing the area.

Stanley was reportedly shot several times during the attack and died from the injuries sustained.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the killing, saying the victim was attacked by two unidentified men who were riding a motorcycle.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the police had commenced an investigation into the incident.

She added that no suspect had been arrested in connection with the killing as of the time of the report.

The circumstances surrounding the attack, including the motive of the gunmen and whether the incident was directly connected to cult activities, remain under investigation.

The latest killing has, however, raised fresh concerns about security in communities along the Ajah-Sangotedo corridor, where residents have increasingly expressed fears over criminal gangs and suspected cult groups.

The concern is further heightened by recent police operations in the area. The command recently announced the arrest of four suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly involved in killings, robbery and cult-related activities within the axis.

Residents say the latest incident underscores the need for stronger security measures, particularly at night, when criminal activities are often carried out.

Some community members have called for increased police patrols, improved surveillance and closer cooperation between residents, estate security teams and law enforcement agencies.

The killing has also left questions about the safety of private security personnel who are often the first line of defence at residential estates and other properties.

For residents of Royale Estate, the attack has brought renewed anxiety, with calls for authorities to identify those responsible and prevent similar incidents from occurring.

Police authorities are expected to intensify investigations to determine the motive behind the killing, identify the attackers and bring those responsible to justice.
