Suspect allegedly fled Lagos with family before being arrested in Ekiti as police intensify investigation into insider fraud
An employee of an investment company in Lagos State, Bello Samuel, has been arraigned for allegedly diverting ₦90 million from the firm’s account for personal use.
Samuel was arraigned by the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on charges bordering on conspiracy and money laundering.
In a statement released by the PSFU spokesperson, Mr. Ovie Ewhubare, the suspect, who worked in the finance department of the company, allegedly carried out the fraud through an insider scheme.
Ewhubare stated that Samuel was accused of fraudulently converting company funds for personal benefit.
According to him, after discovering that the fraud had been uncovered, the suspect allegedly fled Lagos with members of his family to an unknown destination, cutting off all means of communication in a bid to evade arrest.
He said investigations continued across several South-West states, leading to the eventual arrest of the suspect in Oye-Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The suspect has since been charged to court, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend other individuals allegedly connected to the crime.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Special Fraud Unit, Lagos, Mr. Kayode Ojapinwa, reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to combating financial crimes and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
