Kanye West Banned from UK Over Antisemitism Controversy

Rapper’s travel clearance revoked ahead of Wireless Festival amid political pressure and concerns over “public good”

Kanye West, now legally known as Ye, has been barred from entering the United Kingdom after authorities revoked his travel clearance in a move tied to his history of antisemitic statements.

The controversial rapper had applied for entry through the UK’s Electronic Travel Authorisation system, with initial approval granted. However, officials later reversed the decision following a review, concluding that his presence would not be “conducive to the public good.”

The development throws his scheduled appearance at London’s Wireless Festival in July into uncertainty.

Ye has faced sustained backlash over a series of antisemitic comments, including public expressions of admiration for Adolf Hitler. The controversy deepened last year after he released a song titled Heil Hitler and promoted a swastika-themed T-shirt on his website.

In January, the rapper issued a full-page apology in The Wall Street Journal, attributing his past actions to his bipolar disorder and expressing regret. More recently, he said he was willing to “meet and listen” to members of the UK’s Jewish community.

Despite that, political pressure in the UK has intensified. Prime Minister Keir Starmer described it as “deeply concerning” that Ye had been booked to perform at the festival given his past remarks.

Festival organisers had defended the booking, insisting Ye was invited strictly to perform music, not to promote personal views. Melvin Benn, Managing Director
