Abia governor cites ongoing reforms and infrastructure drive, dismisses critics as “insignificant,” urges constructive engagement

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has formally signalled his intention to seek re-election in 2027, declaring that his administration still has critical work to complete in its mission to transform the state.

Speaking at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Otti told supporters that his decision to pursue a second term is driven by the need to finish ongoing projects and reforms.

“If I had completed the work I set out to do, I wouldn’t be seeking another term,” the governor said.

Otti made the declaration while addressing a crowd of thousands during a large solidarity march organised by stakeholders from the area. The rally, convened by Mr. Dannie Ubani, the Labour Party’s 2023 House of Assembly candidate for Isiala Ngwa South, drew an estimated 10,000 participants.

The governor stressed that his administration’s agenda to reposition Abia remains a work in progress, noting that more time is required to fully deliver on key infrastructure, economic, and governance reforms.

While acknowledging the role of opposition in a democratic system, Otti took aim at some critics, accusing them of engaging in what he described as “witchcraft politics.” He downplayed their influence, insisting that such elements account for less than five percent of the state’s population.

He called on opposition figures to adopt a more constructive approach by acknowledging visible progress and offering practical alternatives, rather than dismissing ongoing achievements.

Otti also expressed appreciation to residents for their continued support and singled out Dannie Ubani for organising the rally, which he described as a strong show of solidarity.

In his remarks, Ubani said the march was aimed at demonstrating widespread backing for the governor while showcasing the administration’s accomplishments so far.
