Coalition across Kogi Central cites ex-governor’s legacy of women empowerment, inclusion, and grassroots impact as reason for bold political move
Women from across Kogi Central Senatorial District have thrown their weight behind former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, jointly purchasing his All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial expression of interest and nomination forms in a striking display of political support.
The move, coordinated by a broad-based coalition spanning the district’s five local government areas, underscores what the groups described as Bello’s unmatched record in advancing women’s inclusion, economic empowerment, and leadership participation during his time in office.
According to the coalition, Bello’s administration marked a turning point in Kogi State’s political landscape, where women were not only visible but actively involved in governance and decision-making at multiple levels.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mrs. Latifat Ohaire highlighted key milestones achieved under Bello’s leadership, including the appointment of a female Secretary to the State Government, female vice chairpersons across all 21 local government areas, the state’s first female ADC to a governor, a female Head of Service, and several female commissioners. She added that these appointments were complemented by targeted empowerment programmes that expanded opportunities for women and the girl child.
Group leaders said the purchase of the nomination forms is both symbolic and strategic—an expression of gratitude for Bello’s past performance and a deliberate investment in sustained representation for women in the district.
The presentation ceremony, held at Bello’s Abuja residence, attracted a large and diverse gathering of women leaders, traders, professionals, and grassroots mobilisers, united in their support for what they described as “a leader who gave women a voice and platform to thrive.”
In his response, Bello expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a strong affirmation of the trust placed in his leadership. He reiterated his commitment to policies that promote gender inclusion, economic opportunity, and social equity.
The development reinforces Bello’s continued grassroots appeal, particularly among women, and positions him as a formidable contender as the APC senatorial race gathers pace.
