Assembly member vows court action to unseat party leadership, seeks order stopping INEC recognition of current NWC

Fresh controversy has erupted within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following a dramatic declaration by a Katsina State House of Assembly member, Hon. Ahmad Ganga, who has proclaimed himself the National Chairman of the party.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, Ganga asserted that he is the “true and authentic Chairperson” of the APC, citing what he described as irregularities and illegitimacy in the current leadership structure of the party.

The lawmaker announced plans to approach the Federal High Court to challenge the legality of the existing leadership, a move that could further deepen internal divisions within the APC.

“This action seeks to unseat what I consider an illegitimate structure presently overseeing the affairs of our great party,” Ganga stated.

He also disclosed that part of his legal action would include seeking a court order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), which he referred to as unlawful.

Ganga argued that his decision is driven by the need to uphold the rule of law, safeguard the integrity of the APC, and ensure that due process is strictly followed in determining party leadership.

The development adds a new layer to ongoing tensions within the APC, where disputes over leadership and internal governance have periodically surfaced. While the party’s national leadership is yet to officially respond to Ganga’s claims, political observers say the matter could trigger a fresh round of legal and political battles ahead of upcoming electoral activities.

As the situation unfolds, attention will be on the Federal High Court and INEC, both of which may play decisive roles in determining the legitimacy of the competing claims to the party’s leadership.
