Retired pilot Geoffrey Wall faces fraud charges after investigators allege decades-long use of falsified credentials despite passing airline checks

A former Air Canada captain is under criminal investigation after Canadian authorities alleged he spent nearly three decades flying commercial aircraft using forged qualifications.

Geoffrey Wall, 59, of Barrie, built a 27-year career with the airline—joining as a first officer in 1998, rising to captain in 2009, and retiring in 2025. During that time, investigators say he operated roughly 900 domestic and international passenger flights and earned millions of dollars.

Peel Regional Police allege Wall did not possess a valid Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL)—the certification required to command large commercial aircraft—but instead used falsified documents. The issue reportedly came to light during a routine evaluation at Toronto Pearson International Airport in March 2025, prompting a joint probe by Transport Canada and police.

Although Wall held a legitimate commercial pilot licence, authorities say he never obtained the ATPL required to captain wide-body jets such as the Boeing 767, 777 and 787.

Police further claim he attempted to conceal the alleged deception by filing a false report. He has now been charged with fraud over $5,000, uttering forged documents, possession of a counterfeit mark, and public mischief. He is scheduled to appear in a Brampton court on June 29.

Air Canada has maintained that passenger safety was never compromised, emphasizing that all pilots undergo rigorous, recurring training and regular competency checks.

However, Peel Police Deputy Chief Nick Milonovich underscored the seriousness of the allegations, stating that misrepresenting professional qualifications poses a significant safety concern.
