Commissioner mourns fallen operatives as command launches probe into accident on Amakalu–Umuelemma Road

Two Imo police officers have died and five others were injured in a road accident in Isiala Mbano. The police command has opened an investigation as CP Audu Bosso expresses condolences.

Two police officers attached to the Imo State Police Command have died following a road accident involving seven operatives along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.

The tragic incident, which occurred on June 29, left all seven officers injured. Police authorities confirmed that two of the operatives later died while receiving treatment, while the remaining five are currently hospitalised.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday, noting that the command has launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

According to Okoye, the officers were on official duty at the time of the accident. He added that the command is working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a painful blow to the command and the Nigeria Police Force.

He extended condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officers, assuring them of the command’s support during the difficult period. Bosso also directed that adequate medical care and welfare support be provided to the injured personnel to aid their recovery.

The police command, however, has not released the identities of the affected officers.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to support the injured and unravel the cause of the fatal crash.
