Ex-presidential aide insists Tinubu ranks among the “cleanest leaders,” warns against damaging narratives about Nigeria’s global image

Former presidential aide and political commentator Reno Omokri has come to the defence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as “one of the cleanest leaders” while rejecting claims that Nigeria is a corrupt country.

Speaking amid ongoing debates on governance and corruption, Omokri argued that the narrative portraying Nigeria as deeply corrupt is overstated and often ignores progress being made through reforms and institutional strengthening.

He stressed that corruption is a global challenge, not one peculiar to Nigeria, noting that many nations continue to grapple with similar issues. According to him, branding Nigeria as inherently corrupt diminishes the efforts of citizens, public servants, and institutions working to improve transparency and accountability.

Omokri further cautioned that persistent negative characterisations could harm the country’s reputation and overshadow strides being made in governance.
