Viral video accusing Nigerian leadership of “silence” and “failure” intensifies pressure on Aso Rock after deadly Plateau attacks leave dozens dead and thousands displaced.
International reactions to Nigeria’s worsening security crisis are growing louder—and more direct—following the deadly Palm Sunday attacks in Plateau State.
A U.S.-based missionary who has spent years working in the region has ignited widespread debate after releasing a strongly worded video message addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The clip, now widely shared across social media platforms, reflects mounting frustration over what many see as the government’s inadequate response to recurring violence in the Middle Belt.
Filmed near the victims, the missionary pointedly urged the President to confront the scale of the tragedy, criticizing what he described as a lack of decisive action. He argued that official responses have not matched the urgency of the situation on the ground.
The remarks come in the wake of coordinated attacks on communities in Bassa and Bokkos local government areas, where gunmen struck shortly after Palm Sunday services. Dozens of people were killed, including women, children, and a religious leader, while many others were displaced as homes were destroyed.
Residents, angered by what they describe as delayed security intervention, have taken to the streets in defiance of curfew orders, demanding greater protection and accountability.
The video has gained traction for its unusually direct tone. Unlike typical diplomatic reactions, the missionary openly criticized Nigeria’s leadership and echoed concerns raised by local authorities about the scale and pattern of the violence. The use of strong terms to describe the killings has further fueled conversation, both within Nigeria and internationally.
Meanwhile, the federal government has condemned the attacks and announced plans for an investigation, reiterating its commitment to restoring peace in affected areas. However, critics argue that such responses have become routine and are yet to translate into lasting security improvements.
As outrage continues to build, the Plateau killings have become a defining moment in ongoing debates about Nigeria’s security challenges—placing the Tinubu administration under increasing scrutiny at home and abroad.
