Social media revisits a 2021 message and the singer’s fiery response as fans mourn Bunmi Akinnanu’s sudden passing
Social media users have begun circulating an old message allegedly sent to gospel singer Bunmi Akinnanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, following news of her death, reigniting debates around prophecies, spiritual messages, and online conduct.
The message, dated 2021, was reportedly sent by an unknown individual who described herself as a “child of God” and claimed to have received a troubling night vision involving the singer. In the message, the sender insisted she was not seeking recognition but urged Omije Ojumi to pray, warning of what she described as “evil conspiracies” against the singer and her ministry. She claimed to have raised prayer altars and appealed for collective prayers so the vision would not come to pass.
According to screenshots now circulating online, Omije Ojumi allegedly responded angrily, rejecting the message as inappropriate and offensive. Her reply, written partly in Yoruba, contained strong language and curse-filled expressions, accusing the sender of lacking manners and questioning why she would share a vision of death rather than positive revelations.
The resurfaced exchange has divided opinion online. While some fans argue that the message should never have been sent and sympathize with the singer’s reaction, others say the response was excessive and are questioning the growing culture of unsolicited “prophetic warnings” sent to public figures.
As condolences continue to pour in for the late gospel singer, many commentators are urging restraint, emphasizing respect for the dead and caution against weaponizing old messages to fuel speculation or spiritual fear.
