Suspect Nabbed After Gunman Disrupts White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Trump Evacuated Unharmed

Suspect arrested at scene after opening fire; one security agent injured as authorities probe motive behind attack

Tension gripped Washington, D.C., on Saturday night after a gunman opened fire and attempted to breach security at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, forcing the emergency evacuation of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect, a 31-year-old California man identified as Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, was swiftly subdued and taken into custody at the scene. Officials said the attacker was heavily armed and is believed to have acted alone.

President Trump, who was safely evacuated without injury, indicated that he may have been the intended target, though investigators are still working to establish the motive behind the attack.

During the chaos, a security service agent sustained a gunshot wound. Officials said the injured agent is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

Law enforcement agencies disclosed that the suspect will face multiple federal charges, including two counts of using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon. He is expected to be arraigned in federal court on Monday.

In the aftermath of the incident, organisers announced the postponement of the high-profile annual event, which typically draws top government officials, journalists, and public figures. A new date is expected to be set within the next 30 days.

The security breach has reignited concerns over the safety of major political gatherings in the United States, with calls likely to intensify for tighter protective measures at high-profile events.
