Berlin cites alleged ethnic and religious rhetoric, erratic conduct; report says ex-minister may be considered for South Africa posting
Germany has reportedly rejected the proposed ambassadorial posting of former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, citing concerns over his past public statements and conduct.
According to a report, German authorities declined to accept the nomination, pointing to what they described as Mr Fani-Kayode’s “erratic behaviour” and a history of controversial remarks. The report said Berlin raised particular concerns about his alleged ethnocentric, tribal, and religiously charged comments in Nigeria, which it considered potentially destabilising.
Diplomatic norms allow host countries to approve or reject ambassadorial nominees, and such decisions are often influenced by perceptions of a nominee’s public record and suitability for representing their home country abroad.
It was further reported that Mr Fani-Kayode may be considered for redeployment to South Africa, although there has been no official confirmation from Nigerian authorities at the time of filing this report.
