Closed-door meeting signals emerging opposition alliance as PRP backs ADC in dispute with INEC and state institutions
Amid a festering leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), its embattled National Chairman, David Mark, has initiated fresh political consultations, holding a high-stakes closed-door meeting with top figures of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
The discreet meeting, held on Friday away from public scrutiny, brought together influential actors from both parties, pointing to a possible realignment within Nigeria’s opposition bloc as tensions continue to grip the ADC.
Among those present were PRP National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, PRP spokesperson Muhammed Ishaq, and former APC National Vice Chairman (North), Salihu Lukman, alongside other key stakeholders.
Baba-Ahmed’s presence is particularly notable, coming months after he resigned as Special Adviser on Political Matters to Vice President Kashim Shettima in April 2025—a move widely interpreted as his return to frontline partisan politics.
While both parties have remained tight-lipped about the outcome of the meeting, insider sources revealed that the PRP used the opportunity to openly align with the ADC leadership amid its ongoing confrontation with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other government institutions.
According to the source, the PRP expressed “strong solidarity” with the ADC and condemned what it described as “anti-democratic actions” targeted at the party.
The development highlights growing cooperation among opposition forces, even as the ADC grapples with internal divisions and external pressures that continue to test its cohesion ahead of future political contests.
