Two years after the comic legend’s death, his widow reveals harsh realities—unpaid bills, children out of school, and a daily struggle to survive.

The widow of late Nollywood icon John Okafor, famously known as Mr Ibu, has made a heartfelt appeal to Nigerians for financial support, revealing that her family is grappling with severe hardship more than two years after the actor’s passing.

In an emotional video interview with content creator King Mitchy on Wednesday, the widow and her children opened up about the difficult conditions they now face, painting a stark picture of life after the loss of the beloved comic star.

Fighting back tears, she disclosed that the family has been unable to meet basic obligations, including rent and school fees, while their electricity supply has been disconnected for over two months due to unpaid bills.

“We fetch water from a well because I have not paid the house rent. They’ve cut our electricity—no light for two months. Every night, we look for where to charge our phones. It’s not easy,” she lamented.

One of Mr Ibu’s daughters praised her mother’s resilience amid the crisis, noting her relentless efforts to provide for the family despite limited resources.

“I thank God for my mom. She does everything she can to feed us, pay our school fees, and keep us going,” the daughter said.

The widow also revealed that her children are at risk of dropping out of school due to unpaid tuition, adding that the school had recently sent reminders over outstanding fees.

“Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent today,” she said.

King Mitchy, who conducted the interview, confirmed that support is being sought to help the family clear school fees, settle rent arrears, and restore electricity.

Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated comic actors, died on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 after battling health complications. His death sparked an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues, and public figures across the country.
