Bellingham Brace Seals 2-1 Extra-Time Win as England Reach World Cup Semi-Finals

Late heroics and extra-time strike seal dramatic 2-1 comeback as England set up Argentina showdown

England powered into the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a gritty 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway, inspired by a match-winning brace from Jude Bellingham.

Norway struck first in the 36th minute through Andreas Schjelderup, stunning England and putting the Three Lions under pressure. But Bellingham responded when it mattered most, rifling home a crucial equaliser deep into first-half stoppage time to restore parity.

With both sides locked at 1-1 after regulation time, the contest stretched into extra time — and once again, Bellingham delivered. The Real Madrid star found the breakthrough early in the additional period, sealing a hard-fought comeback and sending England into the last four.

The win marks England’s first World Cup semi-final appearance since 2018 and further cements Bellingham’s status as one of the tournament’s standout performers, taking his goal tally to six.

England will now face defending champions Argentina in a highly anticipated semi-final clash.

Despite the victory, head coach Thomas Tuchel acknowledged his side fell short of their best but praised their resilience and ability to grind out results under pressure.

The match was not without controversy, as Norway questioned the legitimacy of England’s equaliser. However, FIFA’s connected-ball technology confirmed there was no contact with the overhead cable, allowing the goal to stand.
